Jelly

Fruit jellies are a very popular dietary supplement for many types of terrarium animals. However, it is extremely important to remember one main rule: jelly does not replace a complete diet. It serves exclusively as a sweet treat for occasional diet enrichment, or as an excellent source of hydration and quick energy for feeder insects and breeding beetles (so-called beetle jelly). Whether you reach for fruit cups for crested geckos or special blends for bearded dragons, jelly will bring guaranteed joy to the terrarium.

Fruit and Specialized Jellies: A Popular Treat, Supplementary Food, and Energy for Insects (Beetle Jelly)

Fruit and protein jellies are among the most sought-after items in terrarium keeping. Right from the start, it is good to distinguish between two types of products: classic fruit jellies do not serve as a full replacement for a varied diet. For reptiles (like crested geckos, day geckos, or leopard geckos), they act purely as an occasional sweet reward. However, there are also specialized jellies (e.g., for bearded dragons) that have a complex composition full of insects, calcium, and herbs, representing high-quality supplementary food that can partially replace live insects.

Where fruit jellies always play an absolutely crucial role, however, is in the feeding and breeding of insects. In the terrarium hobby, the term "beetle jelly" is widely used for them. For roaches, crickets, and breeding beetles, these pots represent the safest source of hydration (insects won't drown in them unlike in a water bowl) and quick energy.

Our tips from the assortment:

  • Specialized jellies as supplementary food (Lucky Reptile): This brand offers jellies targeted at specific species and their nutritional needs. An excellent example is Beardie Jelly for bearded dragons (in the Juvenile version for young and Adult for mature dragons), which contains insect meal, alfalfa, extra calcium, and other ingredients. With regular feeding of this jelly, you can even reduce the amount of live insects offered. You will also find Leo Jelly for leopard geckos or Turtle Pudding for turtles.
  • Classic fruit pots (Back Zoo Nature, Repto, and REPTI PLANET): We offer these popular snacks in many flavors – from strawberry, melon, and banana to apple, mango, and blueberry. They are ideal as "beetle jelly" or an occasional treat. You can buy them individually or in multipacks.
  • Protein and breeding jellies (Jelly food): Besides classic fruit flavors, this line also offers variants like White Protein or Brown Candy, which are absolutely ideal for breeding flower beetles and for gut-loading feeder insects before offering them to your pets.

How to properly serve jelly? For specialized jellies for bearded dragons (e.g., Beardie Jelly), we recommend feeding with tweezers initially; once the animals are accustomed to it, you can cut the jelly into bite-sized pieces in a dish. For classic fruit pots, simply peel off the foil and place it in the terrarium. To prevent the jelly from rolling around in the substrate, we recommend using handy holders (e.g., Repto fruit snack holder). Remember to remove uneaten jelly before it spoils (ideally within 48 hours).
